Black Excellence Alumni Event

The University of Minnesota Foundation, the Black Alumni Network, and the Alumni Association filled the Bell Museum for one summer evening. ROQA built a portrait studio inside the reception and left with a fundraising film.

The brief

(01)

A reception is a bad place to get a real answer. People are holding a drink, the room is loud, and nobody wants to be cornered by a camera. The Foundation needed alumni testimony that could carry a giving ask, captured on a night built for mingling rather than interviews.

The pop-up studio

(02)

So we built a room inside the room. An orange drape, two lights, and a camera set up in the museum, close enough to the reception that guests could step in between conversations and be gone in five minutes. Portraits for the Foundation's own use, testimony for the film, and no one pulled away from the evening for long.
