The Silverroom

A Chicago cultural institution moved its trade online without losing the room. ROQA rebuilt the e-commerce experience during the 2020 renovation, when the doors were shut and the store had nowhere else to be.

The brief

(01)

A store that was never only a store. Founded in 1997 by Eric Williams, The Silverroom sits at the intersection of retail, art, and community on Chicago's South Side. Curated jewelry, fashion, art, and music from around the world, and a platform for cultural exchange that a product grid does not describe.

The challenge

(02)

With physical retail disrupted by the pandemic, the store needed a more robust e-commerce platform. The hard part was carrying the warmth, the storytelling, and the cultural relevance of the in-store experience across to a screen.

The work

(Web)

Storefront, product, and the room itself, art directed so the site reads like the shop rather than a catalogue.
