Season-long photography and video capture for a Hyde Park youth soccer program.
AYSO Region 751 serves Hyde Park and Kenwood, running youth soccer for hundreds of kids across every age division. The program is powered almost entirely by volunteers. Coaches, referees, and parents give up their Saturdays so every child gets on the field.
Region 751 brought us in to document a full season. The work started in the fall and ran through spring, covering game days, division play, and the moments that happen on the sideline when nobody is watching the ball.
The Challenge.
Youth sports photography usually falls into one of two traps. It either flattens into a yearbook grid, or it chases the winning goal and misses everything else.
Neither fits AYSO. Their entire philosophy is built on the idea that participation matters more than the scoreboard. Everyone Plays is not a slogan for them. It is the operating rule.
So the brief was not to capture highlights. It was to capture belonging. That meant shooting a season the way a documentarian would, staying long enough for the real moments to show up on their own.
We approached the season with an oral historian’s patience. Show up early. Stay late. Let the day unfold without directing it.
That meant photographing the tunnel of high fives at the final whistle, not just the goal that came before it. Families in camp chairs along the touchline. Coaches crouched at eye level with a five-year-old. Referees working games for free because someone has to.
Video was delivered raw and unedited, straight to the organization, giving Region 751 a full season archive they own and can draw from at any time. Photography was fully edited and color graded, delivered as a season library the program uses for recruitment, registration, and community outreach.
